What is the Purpose of Audit Trail Kits?
Before understanding what the function of Audit Trail kits, a definition of Audit Trail is helpful.
The World English Dictionary say’s audit trail kits are, “a record of all the transactions or data entries that a person or firm has carried out over a specific period”. But better yet Wikipedia says, “Audit trail or audit log is a chronological sequence of audit records, each of which contains evidence directly pertaining to and resulting from the execution of a business process or system function.”
Now why would someone want a sequence of records from their Fingerprint Door Lock or Why would someone want to use audit trail kits?
Commercial:
- To determine which door employees use
- To confirm that your business was opened on time
- To detect if someone not authorized has attempted authorization
- To detect of someone authorized has been in at unreasonable hours
Residential:
- To confirm when your kids are coming home from practice or out with their friends
- To determine when the cleaning company has come to clean your home
- To detect if someone not authorized has attempted authorization
- To detect of someone authorized has been in at unreasonable hours
Currently www.fingerprintdootlocks.com offers two Biometric Fingerprint Door Locks that are audit trail capable. Both Locks are Night and Day from each other but both offer solutions depending on your requirements.
LC200 Full Audit Trail: Up to 20,000 records are stored in each lock at any time before over-writing. This Audit Trail creates an extensive log. Not only does it show a User Name, ID number and time of entrance but also the door that was used and what operation was performed. The operation varies from documenting if this user was adding users to which authorization was performed; Code or Fingerprint. This is perfect for larger companies with many employees or small companies or homes that prefer to keep extensive logs.
LC200 Sample Audit Trail Log:
1TOUCHIQ2 Secure Audit Trail: Up to 60 records are stored in each lock at any time before over-writing. This is the most basic system that gives you a log with who came in (their 3 digit ID#), operation (Fingerprint or pass code used) and at what time. After initial log with who was authorized to come in by 3 digit ID #, names can be added into the log and remember for future logs. It has the ability to save Audit Trail Log with TXT or Excel. Perfect for a small company or home.

I couldn’t find a video of how the LC200 Audit Kit works but there is a video on the 1TOUCHIQ2 Audit Kit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7MH7Rk7738
I find Audit Trails to be very useful and just plain interesting! If my kids are coming home super late, past their curfew, then I want to know about it. If someone is using a pass code instead of their fingerprint and I never gave them the passcode, then I also want to know about it! It’s not about the negative watch dog view either. Employees feel safer knowing that there is an audit trail!
